The mountain areas are mainly covered by forest, the species composition varies with temperature and rainfall. In the higher mountain areas, there are pine forests with, among other things. juniper species Juniperus mexicana and pine species Pinus hartwegii. In temperate areas, pine and oak forests grow with more than 100 species of oak. From this comes Georgians and Sinia, which are grown as ornamental plants in Norway. Mesquite, grasslands and pine and oak forests cover over 70% of the area. In warmer and more rainy areas, there are forests of evergreen and deciduous trees, and where rainfall and temperature are highest, e.g. in Yucatán, there is tropical rainforest with a plethora of palm trees, ferns, orchids and species in the pineapple family as well as mahogany, sapodillas and cocoa trees.
