Plant life in Mexico
Mexico’s flora is rich in endemic plants, ie plants found only in one area. In the driest areas there is desert vegetation with many succulents. Here you will find cactus species, palm lilies (Yucca), agave species and the strange plants ocotillo, Fouqieria splendens and boojum trees, Idria columnaris. In salt-rich desert areas, for example. grass species tobora, Hilaria mutica. Open plains with gram-grass, Bouteloua, and thorny shrubs, among others. mesquite, covers large parts of the northern states. Mesquite has given a name to its own type of vegetation. The mountain areas are mainly covered by forest, the species composition varies with temperature and rainfall. In temperate areas, pine and oak forests grow with more than 100 species of oak. From this comes Georgians and Sinia, which are grown as ornamental plants in Norway. Mesquite, grasslands and pine and oak forests cover over 70% of the area. In warmer and more rainy areas, there are forests of evergreen and deciduous trees, and where rainfall and temperature are highest, e.g. in Yucatán, there is tropical rainforest with a plethora of palm trees, ferns, orchids and species in the pineapple family as well as mahogany, sapodillas and cocoa trees. In the southwest it is the most tropical savanna.
Succulents have become popular ornamental plants and are often easy to care for as they can cope in periods without water.
Wildlife in Mexico
Animal geographically, Mexico falls into two parts, because the nectic and the neotropical region here border each other.
