Rio Grande. The mere mention of this great river that runs through New Mexico makes some travelers wanderlust. The river and its sometimes wild banks are really an attraction that is second to none. If you want to get to know both from a higher point of view, you can go to Taos. There the bridge “Rio Grande Gorge” spans a rugged gorge – at a height of 200 meters! Guaranteed a lasting experience, guaranteed a thrill and guaranteed nothing for the faint of heart!

Experience nature and an excursion into the history of New Mexico combine with a visit to the Bandeller National Monument. The Bandeller National Park is located in the north of the state and offers excellent hiking opportunities with its over 130 square kilometers, Climbing and biking. What makes it unique is the so-called Frijoles Canon. In this gorge the ruins of some villages of the indigenous people have been preserved to this day. Speaking of Indians, the Pueblos tribe is inextricably linked to the history of New Mexico. Their Holy Land is in the Chaco Culture National Historic Park. A visit is particularly worthwhile because of the many pueblos, the ramparts and the remains of the former irrigation system that can still be seen there. This reminder of the civilization of the Pueblo Indians is now officially a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Navajo Indians are also world famous. Their reserve is now near Farmington and is well worth a visit.
Albuquerque and Santa Fe
Although the country can be vast and the distances between destinations can be large, traveling in New Mexico is more or less stress-free. This is not least due to the fact that this country, which is heavily influenced by Spanish immigrants, has hardly any large cities and at the same time is characterized by a very relaxed rhythm of life. Overall, New Mexico doesn’t even have two million people. The largest city is Albuquerque. From here travelers can reach all important destinations in the USA by plane, train or greyhound bus. The capital of New Mexico is the comparatively small Santa Fé with around 65,000 residents. This city is a must for every visitor! Santa Fé is not only the oldest state capital in the USA, In fact, some of the oldest buildings on the continent have been preserved here. It is worth wandering the old town by the river and visiting churches such as the San Miguel Mission or the Loretto Chapel. The New Mexico Museum is also worth a visit.
