Chinese new year celebration and parade

The New Year Parade is a worldwide and national event. The Chinese community in San Francisco is the largest outside of China, which is why the Chinese New Year celebrations in San Francisco are the largest in the United States. The parade shows floats, ornate costumes, wild lions, exploding fireworks and the spectacular 6.8 m golden dragon (gum lung).

Arrival of the sea lions at Pier 39

North Beach Festival

The North Beach Festival is one of the country’s most typical outdoor festivals. It takes place in the historic North Beach District, known to locals and visitors as San Francisco’s Little Italy and home to the famous beat generation. It is celebrated in numerous quaint streets in the center of the neighborhood, including Grant Avenue and Columbus Avenue. The festival has a lot to offer: more than 125 stalls with handicrafts, gourmet food stalls, two stages for live entertainment, Italian street painting, beer gardens, an area where children can paint with chalk and the animal blessing.

Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon

Triathletes from all over the world, amateurs and professionals alike, start against the historical backdrop of what is probably the most famous prison in the world, to jump into the icy waters of San Francisco Bay. The participants cover 2.4 kilometers swimming, 24 kilometers cycling and 13 kilometers running. The Fitness Festival thrills athletes and exhibitors alike and is a weekend spectacle for the whole family. Participation in the triathlon is only recommended for experienced athletes.

San Francisco Fringe Festival

As part of the San Francisco Fringe Festival, drama groups and amateurs from San Francisco and other regions bring a wide range of theater performances to the stage each September. During the 12 days of the festival, visitors can expect everything from serious drama to sketches. A lottery system that determines the program and is guaranteed to be very varied makes the event truly unique.
