Delaware is a state on the east coast of the United States and is located in the north-east of the United States. The state took its name after the Colony of Virginia’s second governor, Sir Thomas West, who held the title of Lord De La Warr. The Delaware River was also named after him.
In addition, Delaware is officially nicknamed “ The First State ” because it was the first state to be admitted to the United States of America in 1787.
With an area of 6,447 km², Delaware is the second smallest state in the USA after Rhode Island. The largest city is Wilmington, but the capital is Dover, which is near one of America’s largest air force bases, Dover Air Force Base.
The state of Delaware is bordered by Maryland to the south and west, New Jersey to the northeast, Pennsylvania to the north, and Delaware Bay on the Atlantic Ocean to the east.
Delaware has a low tax burden, which is why many shell companies have settled here. Over a third of shell companies are housed in a single story building, the Corporation Trust Center. The companies include Allianz SE, Adidas, American Airlines, Apple, Coca-Cola, General Motors, Google, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Lufthansa, Daimler AG, Verizon and Volkswagen, among others. Delaware is generally considered a tax haven, and it is also possible to found companies anonymously here.
Climate in Delaware
Delaware has a pleasant year-round climate with average temperatures ranging from 0 to 24 degrees Celsius. The seasons are clearly separated from each other. In summer it can get up to 32 °C; snow sometimes falls in winter – temperatures can drop to −5 °C.
Attractions in Delaware
Until 2013, Delaware was the only U.S. state that had no national parks, wildlife refuges, or federal memorials on its territory. On March 25, 2013, President Barack Obama dedicated the First State National Monument to commemorate the state’s role in colonial times and Delaware being the first state to ratify the United States Constitution.

Delaware Contemporary
The Delaware Contemporary Center is the only contemporary art museum in Delaware. Established in 1979, it is a non-collecting museum specializing in the work of local and regional, national and international artists. On average, between 25-30 exhibitions are shown here every year.
Delaware Contemporary was founded by artists to bring art to the community. In addition to the exhibition, it therefore offers a meeting place for exploring new ideas, art and technology.
Delaware Contemporary aims to encourage creativity into our daily lives. There are regularly changing exhibitions and programs on various art themes.
In all, Delaware Contemporary is home to seven galleries, twenty-six artist studios, a gift shop, a high-tech auditorium, and a classroom.

family sunday
A free family Sunday is held here regularly to introduce the children to different concepts of art. Family tours, information events and scavenger hunts through the galleries take place on this day.
Events at the Delaware Contemporary Center
In addition to contemporary art, the center offers the opportunity to be booked for private events such as weddings or other events. The whole thing then takes place in the atrium lobby.
History of the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts
The DCCA was founded in 1979 as a gathering place for artists to show new work, create and sell art. Initially called the Delaware Center, it was later renamed the Delaware Contemporary.
The first works were exhibited in the former waterworks near the city center. In 2000, the Contemporary Center moved to the Christina Riverfront in Wilmington.
Entrance fees & opening hours
Admission to the Delaware Contemporary Center is free, but the center always appreciates a small donation. It is open from Tuesday to Sunday. Monday is always a day off.
