Glossary of Watches

Solar Powered:  A quartz watch is powered by solar energy solar panels that recharge the battery.

Altimeter: . The function of the altimeter determines altitude by measuring changes in barometric pressure An altimeter is a common feature in a pilots watch.

Analog: A relo is called “analog” when he has hands that move marks from 1 to 12 to show the hour, which is the traditional sphere.

Digital Analog:  This style has an analog clock dial with hands and a digital display separately.  The two displays usually operate independently of each other.

Opening:  a window located on a face of a clock showing a function common form shows the calendar date, day of week or month.

ATM:  An atmosphere is a unit of atmospheric pressure. The r elojeros these units used to indicate water resistance.  See the definition of water resistance.

Bezel: The bezel is a ring that connects the glass watch case.

Bezel:  . This type of panel can be activated and configured for different positions by the watch user  . A rotary dial often features scales and markings that the user uses to calculate timekeeping or mathematical equations  These frames are generally designated as rotating bezels bidirectional or unidirectional rotating bezels.
Perpetual calendar: A Quél prepared to change automatically even when the year is a leap year. This is thanks to special gears with a very slow movement and a “memory” fit just the right year. Externally, a perpetual calendar recognize it at first sight for a special display  with four numbers , from 1 to 4, indicating the period of time between us leap year and leap year.
Case:  . The frame that houses the clock mechanisms  The crown of a man ‘s watch is usually 35 mm or more in diameter, the size of the watch case of women is 34 millimeters or less.

Glossary of Watches

Caliber: The caliber refers indicates the configuration and size of the watch movement.

Crown:  Device striatum through that rope is given to the clock, it puts you in an hour or calendar date is changed. It is usually placed at 3. It is usually chrome or brass plated and brand watches incorporates its  logo  as distinctive characteristic. The crown is threaded to the seat and sometimes, especially in submersible watches, also threaded to the box.

Screw crown:  This crown fits the watch case to create a stronger seal the push and pull crown.  These crowns help create greater water resistance for the clock.

Chronograph: Instrument schedule provided with a timer to measure and display time intervals regardless of conservation and eventually the timestamp. Watch provided with hour, minute and second hands , complete with a mechanism that drives a chronograph placed in the center of the sphere. The buttons allow you set it up, stop and re-zero. Said needle makes one revolution per minute; another needle called counter, total number of laps, minutes, generally up to 30.

Analog Chronograph:  Displays the time and has stopwatch functions using the hands on the dial.  The central hand indicates the stopwatch function, and seconds are displayed in a subdial.  The watches analog quartz chronograph function often display 1 / 10th second and 1 / 100th second subdials.

Glossary of Watches 1

Stopwatch: A stopwatch is a high – precision clock whose movement has been quality tested by Officiel Suisse des Control (COSC), a Swiss laboratory. Testing movement COSC. The r elojes qualified as stopwatches include a number of COSC certification.

Crystal: Thin glass plate or a transparent synthetic product that protects the face of a clock. The major forms are: round, round beveled round “Chevé”, round concave, crystal shape, crystal form beveled, concave shaped crystal, crystal form “optical”, and ball – shaped glass.

Double Chronograph: A double chronograph has two independent stopwatches.

Moon Phase:  This is a feature that shows the lunar phases of the month, usually in a subdial.
Dual Time:  This function allows the user to track the time in two time zones at once.  The screen can have two clocks, one positioned subdial on the main dial, or analog and digital on the same key screens.

World Time:  Usually found in the bezel or outer edge of the main line, a world time dial is a scale that indicates the time in multiple time zones.  Each time zone lists a large city.

Day and night indicator:  . This indicator bezel around the edge of a clock showing the time zones and many cities or countries  The circle is shaded to specify the day and night hours.

Board: . The seals are seals placed on the crown, buttons, case back and crystals to increase the capacity of water resistance of a watch joints should be checked for damage by a professional jeweler every few years.

Kinetic: Refers to a clock mechanism that works with the natural movement of the wearer ‘s arm. A kinetic watch uses oscillating weights to generate the energy that charges the battery.

Movement: In the science of watchmaking, movement refers to the mechanism of the internal clock that drives the timekeeping, in other words, is the engine of the watch. The watches have quartz movements, mechanical or automatic.

Glossary of Watches 2

Automatic Movement:  An automatic movement is a mechanical movement with a design autoloading.  A timer uses the energy produced by movement.  This movement has a rotor which rotates when the clock is moving, as when the user moves the arm .

Quartz Movement:  The movement is called quartz because the battery works in conjunction with a quartz crystal.  The battery passes an electric current through the crystal to keep it oscillating at 32,000 vibrations per second.  This vibrating crystal driving a motor moving clockwise at a constant speed to maintain accurate time.

Mechanical movement:  The most important feature of a mechanical movement is to be manually wound to store potential energy.
Heart rate monitor: The heart rate monitor is the function of advanced sport watches that measures the user ‘s pulse rate.

Waterproof: . This term is misleading when applied to watches . No watch is water resistant to 100 percent, however, many watches have a resistance rating of high water and can be labeled and See definition of water resistance.

Glossary of Watches 3

Water resistance: The design of a water resistant watch helps prevent ingress of moisture and prevents damage to the movement. Use joints c Aucho, nylon or teflon on the back cover, crystals, crowns and pushers to seal these crucial points. A watch that has a rating of 10 ATM is water resistant to 100 meters, and one that has a rating of 20 ATM is water resistant to 200 meters. These ratings are often found in watches.

Shock resistance:  shock resistance refers to the durability of the watchcase and its ability to protect the movement.  To be resistant considered shock, a watch must be able to survive the drop on a wooden floor a height of 3 feet or withstand an impact of equal strength.

Dive Watch:  A dive watch is suitable for snorkeling or diving.  These watches pass the scales marking the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and regulations must be rated for water resistance of 20 ATM (200 meters / 660 feet).

Depth sensor:  This feature is found in some watches and determines depth depending on measuring water pressure.

Glossary of Watches 4

Tourbillon:  a tourbillon is a framework for the exhaust section of a mechanical watch.  Some watches have a window to see the tourbillon as an aesthetic element.

Tachymeter:  A tachymeter is a scale used to measure the speed of travel on a specific distance.  The scale used for this calculation is often in the frame or edge of a clock line.

Rangefinder:  a rangefinder determines the time it takes for sound to travel between the watch and a specific object.  This measure is used to determine the distance between the two points.  The telemeter scale is usually set on the bezel.

Tonneau:  Tonneau is a box shape of a watch that has convex sides and resembles the side view of a barrel.
